Matthijs Wenning of the Yorkton Regional High School was among the 250-plus competitors who took part in The Health Foundation's 5th Annual Charity Road Race took over the City's neighbourhood streets very very early on a Sunday morning.

Wenning who is used to tearing it up on the high school circuit during his rookie year last year, did it again in Yorkton on Sunday.

At the Road Race over the weekend, Wenning didn't collect any gold medals, but he did cross the finish line ahead of everyone else in his race.

Wenning competed in the 5km race at this year's event. He said he ran the 10km race last year.
"It was alright," he said following the race.

He finished his portion of the Road Race with 18:32, but added that he wasn't impressed with that time.

"Not really," he said when asked if he was happy. He said he ran it with a few classmates from school but said the pace wasn't what he is used to during high school meets.

He noted that he did not find the competition the same as what he is used to while competing with the Yorkton Regional High School last year. He is currently getting ready for the cross country season, which starts next month.

He said it was an opportunity to compete to keep his conditioning for the high school season.
