Four teams squared off last weekend in a battle of Yorkton's ball hockey best, slugging it out to determine this year's winner.
This was the 7th annual tournament with a total of 25 both local players and those who made the trip from as far west as Calgary.
This is an invitational tournament only, so everyone that came out has played some type of organized hockey in his life.
It's friendly play, but very competitive.
Things went a little differently this year, the first place team goes straight to the final and earns a 'double life.'
Second place and third place playoff to meet the first place team for the final, while whoever places fourth, doesn't qualify for the playoffs.
All games are made up of two 10-minute halves with a five-minute break in between. If the game remains tied following regulation time, they go into overtime with a 3 on 3 format for three minutes.
If the game remains tied, the teams go into a sudden-death shootout.
After round robin, Mike Rousin's team ended up in the number-one seed with a record of 2-1. MacKenzie Unyi's team also ended up with a record of 2-1. Rousin had beat Unyi in the round robin so Unyi took second place.
Jeff Langan's team finished at 1-2 as well as Curtis Rousin's team, but Langan beat Rousin in the round robin so Langan took third place, leaving Rousin's team eliminated from playoff contention.
In the opening round of the playoffs, Unyi beat Langan, 5-2 which put Unyi in the final. In the first game of the finals, Unyi beat Mike Rousin 4-3 in a nailbiter, so the final game was a hard fought 4-2 win for Unyi to win the tournament.
His team played and won three games in a row to take top honours in the 7th Annual Procyshen Floor hockey tournament.
All in all it was a good tournament with only a few minor but very painful injuries. Most of the players are from Yorkton area but Mike Matich drove in from Calgary to play here this year.
