The Canora Supers won their home opener against Roblin on May 17, making their record: one win and two losses in the 小蓝视频 East Senior Baseball League.
鈥淛ordan Bieber made his first pitching start as a Super,鈥 said coach Greg Andreychuk. 鈥淎fter some first inning control issues, he settled down and tossed four innings en route to his first win as the Supers took the game 19-4.鈥
Bieber pitched four innings during which four hits were allowed along with four runs (three earned). There were four walks and five strikeouts. Darcy Blommaert came out of the bullpen to pitch the final two innings. He allowed no runs but there was one hit and a pair of strikeouts. The game was called in the middle of the sixth due to darkness.
鈥淭he bats came to life in a big way as the Supers pounded out 18 hits off a trio of Stars鈥 pitchers,鈥 said Andreychuk. 鈥淒erek Palagian led the way with four singles and four runs scored. Travis Mentanko and long-time Super Jeff Bahrey each had three hits and three runs scored. This was Bahrey鈥檚 first home game since the 2010 season.鈥
Brogan Legebokoff, Adam Korb and Clint Maduck each had two hits for the Supers as well. Maduck also made his Supers debut as he was summoned up from the Parkland Padres to catch the game. Terry Cumming chipped in with a double, while Rawlee Wyatt and Evan Rostotski each had a single.
The previous night (May 16), the results were quite different when the Supers were on the road to play the Langenburg Indians.
鈥淯nfortunately the bats were silenced by Indians鈥 pitchers Matt Poier and Aaron Haas as the Supers were shutout 6-0,鈥 said Andreychuk.
Derek Palagian started on the mound, allowing six runs (three earned) and nine hits, and he had five strikeouts.
鈥淯nfortunately, a few fielding miscues set the tone early and the Supers were not able to persevere,鈥 said Andreychuk. 鈥淭he offence could only generate six hits and two walks the entire evening.鈥
In the top of the second with runners on second and third with one out, Poier was able to strike out the final two Supers鈥 batters of the inning to prevent them from scoring, he said. Evan Rostotski led the way for the Supers with a single and a double. Also getting hits were Adam Korb with a double, Terry Cumming with a single, and Jordan Bieber and Rawlee Wyatt with their first hits as Supers.
The Supers are to see their next action tonight (May 25) as the Swan River Reds come to town, said Andreychuk.
