The Parkland Valley Sport, Culture & Recreation Summer Tour has been in existence in one form or another in the district for over 20 years, and is one of the most successful programs in the area. The program offers a variety of events and activities for children to participate in during the summer. These activities include: arts, crafts, cooperative games, sport introduction, outdoor activities, storytelling, special events plus much more.

The Parkland Valley Sport, Culture and Recreation District developed 2 Sport, Culture, and Recreation Programmer positions for the summer of 2010. The Programmers are responsible for the planning and implementing of the Sport, Culture, and Recreation Summer Tour Program within the District.

The Programmers include Bethany Wagner and Danielle Brischuk. Bethany has completed three years of the Elementary Education Program at the University of Regina.

There are 2 formats for the Summer Tour Program which communities can be involved in.

One is a one-day format with the Parkland Valley Programmers, the other is a once-a-week format for recreational and sports days with local leaders. The format with local leaders takes a bit more planning from the communities. This format has the community applying for the funding to run their local program to pay for their leaders and the supplies needed for the program. This allows the community to meet their own needs and creates employment for youth in their community. In turn Parkland Valley provides training and support for the local leaders. The first format has communities sending in their request with payment to have the District Programmers visit the community to deliver the program. Communities interested in having District Programmers deliver the program in their community are encouraged to contact Danielle at [email protected] or Bethany at [email protected] or by calling 306-786-6585.
