Sturgis School curlers bring home gold and bronze medals at districts

The Sturgis Composite School girls and boys curling teams each brought home medals from the East Central District Athletic Association curling competition in Yorkton on February 8 and 9.

The Sturgis Composite School girls and boys curling teams each brought home medals from the East Central District Athletic Association curling competition in Yorkton on February 8 and 9.

The girls team defeated Churchbridge in the final match for third place to capture the bronze medals.

"Other teams the girls played against were: Preeceville, Sacred Heart 1 and 2 teams (Yorkton), and Esterhazy," said Kristen Peterson, coach.

Other teams in the competition were: YRHS (Yorkton Regional High School), Melville and Kamsack. Esterhazy won gold and YRHS won silver.

Members of the girls team were: Kylie Babiuk (skip); Jillian Tonn (third); Brynn Babiuk (second) and Mikayla Gregory (lead.)

The boys team won all its games against Yorkton Regional, Norquay and Preeceville. Sturgis defeated Norquay in the final match for the gold medal, stated Peterson. Norquay won the silver medal and Preeceville won the bronze. The boys have advanced to Regionals to be held in Yorkton on March 1 and 2.

Members of the boys curling team were, Shae Peterson (skip); Garrett Baziuk (third); Carter Masley (second) and Daniell Mirva (lead), Camron Secundiak (lead).

Kristen Peterson and Cory Babiuk were coaches.
