Sturgis high school senior boys curling team brings home silver

The Sturgis Composite High School senior boys curling team brought home a silver medal from the district competition held in Yorkton on February 4 and 5. The team has qualified to advance to Regionals in Estevan on March 3 and 4.

            The Sturgis Composite High School senior boys curling team brought home a silver medal from the district competition held in Yorkton on February 4 and 5. The team has qualified to advance to Regionals in Estevan on March 3 and 4.

            "There were two teams entered in the boys category," said Kirsten Peterson, coach.

            Sturgis and Yorkton played against each other in a best-of-three games competition. Sturgis won the first game but lost the second game in the extra end and the third game was won by Yorkton.

            Yorkton won the gold and Sturgis won the silver and both teams advance to Regionals.

            The senior girls also attended the district competition. There were six teams entered: Sturgis, Kamsack, Esterhazy, Melville, Scared Heart and Yorkton Regional. The senior girls played two games and won their first game against Kamsack but were defeated in a double knockout by the Yorkton Regional High School team.

            Esterhazy won the gold, Sacred Heart won silver and Yorkton Regional won the bronze medal.
