The Sacred Heart senior football team is looking at going even farther than it did last season when it came to one win away from appearing in the provincial finals.
This year, they held their first practice a good two full weeks before anyone even set foot inside a classroom.
Head coach Trent Senger has very high hopes for his team to go even beyond what it accomplished last season.
He held the team's first practice in the early morning of Friday, Aug. 26.
The team's 2011 schedule has just been released. SHHS is faced with only a five-game schedule this season.
Senger said that Lumsden and Fort Qu'Appelle both were switched to a different division for this season and that one team had been added.
As a result, SHHS's schedule has them lose on of their regular six games.
The Saints will open up on Sept. 15 when they host Melville.
They head to Kamsack a week later (Sept. 22).
Swan River comes to Yorkton on Sept. 29 to round out September games.
SHHS heads to Esterhazy on Oct. 6 and they complete the regular season part of the schedule on Oct. 13 when they play host to Foam Lake.
Senger told YTW two days into the school year that he has every intention of going all the way this year.
It is going to be imperative that SHHS maintains home-field advantage this season.
This year, they can only get it by winning football games.
The playoffs are tentatively scheduled for the end of October. Dates are Oct. 22 and Oct. 29.
The provincial semi finals would be played on Nov. 5 and the finals slated for Nov. 12.
Senger will once again assume head coaching duties on his third season with the senior football team. Back to assist will be Chad Holinaty, Dwayne Todas, Scott Musqua and Darcy Todos.
The Saints will once again play among the Conference III teams. They include the: Swan Valley Tigers, Esterhazy Warriors, Foam Lake Panthers, Kamsack Spartans and the Melville Cobras.
Both Lumsden and Fort Qu'Appelle were moved to Conference II.
