SALTCOATS - After completing his fourth year at Mayville State University in North Dakota Saltcoats’ Gregor Farquharson is headed to Ontario for summer ball.

Farquharson has signed to pitch for the Brantford Red Sox for the upcoming Intercounty Baseball League season.

“I got in contact with the GM,” he told Yorkton This Week, adding his brother ‘Kaito’ had planned to play in Brantford last summer. While his brother ultimately did not go east, Gregor said he sees it as a good next step for his career.

The younger Farquharson also followed Kaito to Mayville, which proved a good decision.

“The baseball atmosphere was really nice. It was a good fit for me,” he said.

While in college Farquharson pitched in relief at times through his first three years, concentrating on starting in his just completed fourth years.

“I’d say (my strength), is throwing strikes with my fastball, and competing,” he said.

Now he looks forward to a summer in Ontario.

“I think it’s going to be really good competition there. I’m excited to see how I fit in there,” said Farquharson.

The time as a Red Sox is also hoped to be a step toward more baseball options.

Farquharson said, “if all goes well” he will get a shot to make a minor pro roster here in North America, or again like brother Kaito, maybe head to Japan.
