For the month of March, the Sacred Heart athlete of the month comes from the senior boys basketball team. He is a rookie that came to the team with a lot of experience. It was a tough road for this him to go down as he started on the bench and worked his way into an extremely productive role. The team competed in three tournaments in the month of March finishing second at the YRHS and then defeating the Regional at conferences to claim the Conference title. SHHS went into provincials seeded sixth but suffered a disappointing overtime loss to Moose Jaw. He has contributed greatly to this success by his shooting ability. He scored a game-high 20 points vs. Balgonie at conferences followed by 14 in the final vs. YRHS. Also, this player had a dramatic three point shot with five seconds left to send the Saints into overtime against Moose Jaw at Regionals. The Saints athlete of the month is Justin Genaille.
The female athlete of the Month for March is an amazing athlete; she is involved in every sport offered at Sacred Heart As a rookie on the soccer team she was very versatile - playing forward, defence and she served as the backup keeper. Her coach says she is very intelligent and an excellent playmaker. She was team captain of the junior girls volleyball team. She led the team in blocks and kills. She is a great passer. Her volleyball coach says she was one of the best players at the district championships where SHHS were the East Central District Champions for the second year in a row. This athlete is also a member of the basketball team. She scored a staggering 130 points during the season and won countless rebounds All of her coaches regardless of the sport say she is a very coachable athlete, she has an infectious attitude, she is a great leader and team motivator. Most recently she is part of the girls doubles on the Jr badminton team. Along with her partner they won a bronze at a Sr tournament, silver at the York City, gold in Melville and gold at the City Championships. March's female athlete of the month is Kristen Jonassen.
