Rhein Rockets drop fourth straight to start season

The Rocket offence would manage bases loaded once, but in the end Blues pitcher Mike Jordan weaved a shut-out sending his team home with a 2-0 win.

RHEIN - It was not the way the Rhein Rockets hoped to mark the Summer Solstice.

The defending Richardson Pioneer Men's Fastball League champion Rockets hosted the Wynyard Blues June 21, and while veteran Rhein Rocket pitcher Terry Peppler would allow the Blues only two runs, it was not good enough.

The Rocket offence would manage bases loaded once, but in the end Blues pitcher Mike Jordan weaved a shut-out sending his team home with a 2-0 win.

The loss was the fourth straight to start the 2023 season for the Rockets, who sit in the league basement. The hometown Rockets might at least take solace in the fact it was the first time in four games they did not give up double digit scores to their opponents. So far this season the Rockets have been outscored 41-14 through their quartet of games.

Conversely, the win was the fifth straight for Wynyard who are perched atop the five-team league.
