The Yorkton Peewee Kozie Drywall Terriers are well into their playoff round with Moose Jaw, hosting the first game in Yorkton on Friday and then heading on the road for game two in Moose Jaw.
The two teams are even at one game apiece and the winner of the next game advances, says Ed Zawatsky, head coach of the team. That game will be played on March 19 at 7:30 p.m., at the Kinsmen Arena, said Wade Miller, team manager.
Zawatsky said that playing on home ice should work to Yorkton's advantage.
"I think it does," he said, before adding that "we've played well on home ice." The Terriers took game one by a 7-3 count at Farrell Agencies Arena. Zach Andrusiak led with two goals while singles went to Josh Rohatensky, Alec Zawatsky, Kylan Shea, McKenzie Welke and Carson Welke. Zawatsky said Andrusiak has become one of the better players on the team and in the league, but Moose Jaw has proven to be able to handle themselves too, he said.
"Moose Jaw is good too. They might be a little older (but) it was pretty neck and neck," he said of the two games played so far. In game two, Sunday in Moose Jaw, Yorkton got goals from Andrusiak, Shea and Derrick Budz. Yorkton goaltenders Colby Enns and Alex Geddes have been sharing the work in net, adds Zawatsky.
