After dropping a 4-1 decision to the Moose Jaw Mavericks, the Parkland Lions Midget Girls AA hockey team, which includes Kamsack members, responded with a 4-0 shutout victory on Sunday.
The Lions, who are members of the Midget AA category of the 小蓝视频 Saskatchewan Female Hockey League (SSFHL), now sit with a record of four wins, three losses, and one tie.
聽 Taylor Nagy picked up her second shutout victory of the season, while Chace Sperling, Janna Kesig, Sidney Shyiak and Jordan Holinaty each chipped in single markers.
鈥淭his weekend was our season in a nutshell,鈥 said Chad Holinaty, a coach. 鈥淲e came out Saturday with no energy or fight. Last weekend we beat the two Regina teams (Ravens and Capitals), so I鈥檓 not sure if we started to think we just have to show up and we鈥檒l win, or why we came out so flat.
鈥淚 was glad to see us respond well Sunday,鈥 Holinaty said. 鈥淚 thought everyone contributed and brought a lot more energy. Once everyone buys into our system and starts to understand we can鈥檛 take shifts off, I think we can be competitive.聽 If we don鈥檛 figure that out quickly, we鈥檒l continue to be a .500 team.鈥
鈥淭his league is going to be very tight from top to bottom. Any team can beat anyone right now,鈥 said Dean Shyiak, a coach. 鈥淭he difference is going to be which team shows up ready to compete. For us to be successful, we need everyone on our team to be contributing.鈥
鈥淲e have to be sound defensively, said Kim Pennell, a coach. 鈥淲e鈥檝e had a tough time scoring more than three goals a game, so we have to have everyone on the same page with our defensive system.聽 Hopefully, we can start to create more offence as the girls get more comfortable playing together.鈥
The next action for the Lions will be December 4 to 6 at the Regina Female Hockey Challenge.
鈥淭hat will be a chance to play some teams outside of our league, for the girls to spend some time together on the road, to continue to work on our system, and to just have some fun,鈥 said Tim Davis, a coach.
The next league action for the Lions will be a home weekend with Regina December 12 and 13 in Churchbridge.
