YORKTON - The Yorkton Terriers headed north Friday to play the Melfort Mustangs.
The SJHL contest was close through the opening 20-minutes of play, Rhett Hamilton scoring for the home team 3:51 in and Cade Kennedy knotting the contest at 7:49.
The 1-1 score held until late in the second period as Ryan Duguay scored at 14:02 to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead.
David Rioux scored at 19:23 to extend Melfort’s lead to 3-1.
It was more Mustang offence in the third as Hayden Prosofsky made it 4-1 with a goal at the three-minute mark.
That would be it as Melfort won 4-1.
The game was the first SJHL contest for Terrier netminder Adam Kelly from Calgary. He faced 30-shots in the loss.
James Venne was in te Mustang net for the won, facing 23-shots.
The Mustangs pay a return visit to the Terriers Saturday for a contest to be played in Kamsack.
