This year marks the seventh year for the Fargo Marathon, and after hitting over 20,000 registrants last year, they have added a few perks to the show this year. Not the least of which was having live bands play at every mile as well as a post-race concert bash.
There were 23,000 entries into the Fargo marathon this year. Local football coach and resident of Yorkton Jason Boyda and family, was among those who took part in the event.
"There was lots of support," says Boyda, who attended along with his wife and two kids.
The marathon began at the North Dakota State University FargoDome.
"My wife and daughter found it very challenging, rewarding as well," comments Boyda upon returning home to the Land of the Living Skies.
It was his first time running it, but added of his wife: "she's a big runner".
The Fargo Marathon is the recipient of the Runner's World Reader's Choice award and the number-one Best Value marathon in America.
Everything begins with the Swanson Health Fitness Expo, which is held at the FargoDome.
"They break it up into laps for the little kids (5km). The full marathon is 42km," says Boyda.
The running began the Thursday of the Canadian May 2-4 weekend, ending that Saturday.
The weekend's races kicked off on the Thursday night with the infamous Fargo Youth Runs which boast over 2,500 kids from all over running either a half mile or one mile race for fun. Participants in the Fargo Marathon came from mostly the north central USA, with "a few from Manitoba" says Boyda.
