An alumni of LCBI High School in Outlook who already has made impressive waves in football is switching gears for the time 小蓝视频 to a vastly different sport.
Kayden Johnson, who graduated from the 鈥楬ome of the Bisons鈥 in 2014, has been named to Canada鈥檚 national bobsleigh program for the 2020/21 season.
A media release from York University, Johnson鈥檚 most recent alma matter, shared the news last week:
鈥淵ork's 2018 male athlete of the year only recently took up the sport, but his athletic background and drive for success launched him onto the team. He will be part of the development bobsleigh team, learning the nuances of the sport alongside other top athletes.
It has been quite the year for Johnson. The multi-sport athlete was drafted by the BC Lions in the seventh round (58th overall) in the Canadian Football League (CFL)'s entry draft this past spring but missed out on his first season because of the league-wide shutdown due to COVID. He has dreams of playing professional football and also representing Canada at both the winter and summer Olympics. In addition to his prowess on the football field and the bobsled track, he is a world-class hurdler whose times have put him on the radar of the national track and field team.
Johnson, who hails from Kerrobert, Sask., did not play in his final football season with the York Lions due to an injury but in the three years before that, he played in all 24 games, picking up 1174 rushing yards on 235 carries and twice finishing in the top 10 in the OUA in total rushes and yards. He also starred on the track and field team and in 2018 won OUA and U SPORTS gold in the 60m hurdles. The year prior, he competed in the heptathlon and won the OUA silver medal.
The national bobsleigh program will split its time between taking valuable training runs at the world-leading Whistler Sliding Centre with working on their starts in the Ice House at Winsport's Canada Olympic Park in Calgary until January when they plan to rejoin the World Cup circuit.鈥
