KOS goes on in 'icy' weather

The Yorkton Kids of Steel (KOS) triathlon went on as scheduled Sunday morning at the Gallagher Centre as 20 kids from Yorkton, Regina and Kamsack took part in swimming, running and cycling.

Ethier was one of a handful of people who helped make sure the day ran smoothly, getting participants through a course which included laps in the Gallagher Centre pool, a run which took them east towards the Yorkton Co-op, then a bicycle ride heading southbound from the arena, said J'neene Ethier, race director.

She said that an adult duathlon was part of the schedule for the morning activities, however, due to only a few registrants, was forced to cancel it.

Despite the colder then usual weather temperatures for Yorkton considering the time of year, Ethier said it was good to be a part of it all.

"Oh yeah!" she said with no hesitation. "It's all about fun."

She used the word "icy" to describe it today.

"It was darn cold. They did well considering the weather."

She added that most of the kids on the KOS tour, did all of the laps by bike and running, all in wet suits after exiting the swimming pool.

"Most of them were wearing wet clothes. In the past, it's been a lot warmer."

The KOS triathlon was part of a provincial race which made its Yorkton stop here over the weekend.

The racers included "a pile from Yorkton" says Ethier, with three from Kamsack and a pair from Regina. "We send this out all over the province," she said of an email to notify all participants of the date and time.
