The 2nd Annual LDM Foods Kids of Steel triathlon is coming to Yorkton on May 16. The event will combine swimming and running portions and participants have been training for it on Saturday mornings leading up to it. There will also be an adult duathlon following the kids race.
It starts this Saturday (May 16) at the Gallagher Centre at 8 a.m.
Michelle Walker, on of the organizers of the races, said some of the kids are as young as six and will be competing.
The city has closed down some of the streets to make room for the runners and she said one of the challenges is going to be the routes.
She said it should be a good competition because one of the aspects about triathlon is that athletes sometimes compete against themselves.
She added that a couple of the members are ultra competitive.
Walker said she is still looking for volunteer help and anyone interested in helping out can call 783-7942.
They are also still accepting applications for the duathlon. Registration forms can be found at www.parklandtri.com.
"I'm pretty excited," she said.
It's race she said is entering only its second year but it's something she hopes will be able to continue. She's got 17 kids that will be taking part and is hoping to get some more.
