The KCI senior mixed curling team returned from the District competition in Yorkton on February 6, clutching the bonspiel’s silver medal.

The team, which is comprised of Jayden Chutskoff (skip), Kaylie Bowes (third) Kyle Morgan (second), Cassidy Aker (lead) and Henry Thomas (spare), won silver after playing four games in the double knockout format competition. The team is coached by Scott Tulloch and Barb Tetoff is the manager.

The team first lost to Churchbridge, and then defeated Sturgis and Melville, before meeting Churchbridge again, and losing to that rink again, earning KCI the silver medal, while Churchbridge was presented with the gold medal.

The team earned the right to advance to the eight-team Regionals СÀ¶ÊÓƵ held in Fort Qu’Appelle February 26 and 27.

This team is made up of all Grade 12 students who have been curling together for five years, Tetoff said. The group also curls on Thursday nights with other members of the Kamsack Curling Club.

Also competing in Yorkton was the KCI girls team comprised of Mikayla Woloshyn, skip; Laurissa Fedorchuk, third; Shani Bear, second and Lexie Koroluk, lead.

The girls lost both games they played, Tetoff said. They lost to the Yorkton Regional High School’s Team One and Team Two.

The girls curled well together, but got some bad breaks, she said. The students are currently in grades 10 and 11 and they are looking forward to next year.
