Reasons to be trained in karate are numerous, Rachel Martinuik, president of the Kamsack Karate Club, said last week as she encouraged people to consider registering for another season of instruction.
Gwen Maddaford of Yorkton is returning as the club鈥檚 sensei, Martinuik said. Instruction will be held in the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute鈥檚 gymnasium number 2 (the small gym accessed through the north door) on Mondays and Wednesdays from October to May. The first session will be held October 5.
The club had 15 students taking instruction when the sessions were over in the spring, she said. Students begin instruction as young as five years of age.
鈥淚f they have the attention span, they can benefit from the instruction,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 fun for them and is good exercise.鈥
Admitting to having been 鈥渁 karate kid鈥 Martinuik listed several of the benefits of karate training including: enhanced self respect and self esteem, its physicality and its something one can do as an adult in addition to it 小蓝视频 a valuable as self-defence.
In karate one associates with other like-minded individuals and the experience is a good way to meet others, she said, adding that the club executive would like to see some adults register as well.
Working on the club executive committee with Martinuik are Cindy Hudye, treasurer, and Maureen Holoboff, secretary.
All the parents play a valuable role, she said.
