The Sacred Heart junior girls basketball team headed off to Weyburn recently to play in a 12-team tournament, said coach Brian Chisholm.
"In the round robin portion, we split games with Weyburn Junior High A, Naicam, and Wymarkand won both sets against Weyburn Jr. High B and Humboldt. We finished the round robin with a 7-3 record, good for second place in pool A," he explained via email to the newspaper.
Next up, they played a quarter final game against Carnduff.
They started out well, says Chisholm, winning the first set by a score of 25-23. However the second and third sets did not go quite so well. SHHS lost 26-24 in the second set and 15-12 in the third and deciding set.
Says Chisholm: "It was a very close, back-and-forth match, played with high energy."
Among the observations he made during the tournament: "Throughout the tournament, the Saints struggled with serving, which cost them a number of sets, and a chance at a higher placing in the tournament.
However, some bright spots are starting to emerge for the team, including much improved passing/ setting, positional play and teamwork," Chisholm lists.
The Saints junior boys team is looking forward to participating in a tournament at YRHS on Oct. 14-15.
