Jr. NBA program underway at Victoria School

A program for youngsters aged 5 to 12 is now underway for 12 weeks at the Victoria School in Kamsack.

A program for youngsters aged 5 to 12 is now underway for 12 weeks at the Victoria School in Kamsack.

Organized by Kev Sumner of the town鈥檚 recreation department, many of the participants who began with the program on March 19 are returning from last year, he said.

鈥淭his is a positive program for the kids and the parents,鈥 said Sumner. 鈥淭he participants are developing athletic skills which they take to the next level as life skills.鈥

Information about the objectives of the Jr. NBA youth basketball program found on the Internet said:

  • Participation - provide opportunities for youth ages 5 to 12 across Canada to play basketball.
  • Development - develop young athletes in alignment with the Sport Canada LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) Model and stage-appropriate drills and games.
  • Progression - entry to the Canada Basketball development pathway, encouraging athletes to pursue high performance opportunity.
  • Character Building - help athletes maximize their potential, using basketball as a vehicle to develop character and life skills.

The group will be meeting twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays to complete the 12 session program in six weeks.
