Kevin Therres of Humboldt was back in town for another day of putting his life at risk.He did it here last year, and was back for more over the weekend.
He recovered following a brutal accident last summer during a night race in Oil Town, but he was clearly ready for more when the drag strip filled up Sunday afternoon just outside of Yorkton.
Brad Bloodoff, president of Yorkton's Kambuster's Racing said that it's race days like Sunday's that prove that Yorkton is quickly becoming an hotbed of racing enthusiasts and that since their stop here last year, it's only growing.
Therres was the main attraction at last year's event, as he was the first racer to show off his canola bio-diesel jet car.
He made the switch from the 2009 Ford Jet truck which he raced here in Yorkton one year ago.
"Kevin, as always, he puts on a heckuva show," Bloodoff acknowledged following the last racers of the day, turned evening.
Therres said he was glad he made the switch from the truck to his new car.
"The biggest difference is this is a car. It's the aerodynamics of the car," he said, talking about it's physical shape and its structure that make it the better choice.
The native of Humboldt said he really enjoys making the trip to Yorkton because, according to him, the races are as awesome as the fans who came out to see them.
"It's an awesome array of fans from all over. They get more people out in the stands (in Yorkton) than the big cities do-I love it!"
He added that there is something about Yorkton and other smaller centres that sets them apart from Saskatoon and even Edmonton and Calgary.
"The fans make or break the face," he said. He also credited the Kambusters for doing a great job."
When Therres isn't racing, he's quite accessible to the media and other curious onlookers. Bloodoff said that Therres has been working wonders for motorsports because he is always on hand and was even signing his name to souvenirs during the Prairie Thunder 7th Annual Drag Race.
Therres said its races like this that help to get more and more people involved in the sport
This was Therres' second showing in as many years at the Yorkton track. After having recovered from avery serious crash last summer, Bloodoff was glad to see him back in one piece.
"He just puts on a phenomenal show."
He had been signing autographs earlier in the day.
