It wasn't a bad day for some horseshoe throwing Saturday morning at the park on First Avenue. The Yorkton Horseshoe Club held its annual sanctioned tournament June 4 on the Old Drake School Grounds. The day included both singles and doubles.
Only about five of the twenty-something that came out, says Enid Mroske, four-and-a-half year president of the Yorkton club.
"There's not many people here from Yorkton," she said, adding that most came from bigger cities Regina, Saskatoon and there were a few that came from Caranport, too, she said.
The tournament is an annual sanctioned event, each of the other clubs within Saskatchewan hold one too, says Mroske.
At each tournament, there are winners from each event and there is singles play and doubles.
She said the club is always looking for new/more members. Anyone interested in taking up horseshoes is invited to join them each Tuesday night beginning at 6 p.m., she said.
"We are always looking for more members. We're very low," she admits.
The age range of participants goes anywhere from 10-90, she said, but added that horseshoes is fun for all ages because it's not as easy as it may look.
"It's challenging."
On Saturday morning, there was two men's categories, one for juniors and one for women.
