Joel Danyluk has been to every member city of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League over the past three years. Now he's going to visit some of the major destinations in Europe over the summer.
London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Munich, Venice, Rome, Florence, Lucerne, Paris and London.
The 20-year-old netminder of the SJHL's Estevan Bruins has been all over the SJHL, now he's going to tour Europe, thanks to the league contest which he won through his community involvement.
Danyluk has been an integral part of each community he has played SJHL hockey in (Yorkton, LaRonge and Estevan) and will be presented with an 11-day Contiki European Magic Tour, which will take him on a trip to each of the 11 European cities listed above. Airfare is also included in his trip.
He said the award came about when all 12 SJHL teams nominated one player they thought should win.
"I was nominated by the Estevan Bruins," he told the paper, adding that it's the "first time ever" for this award to be given out.
"This is one of the biggest awards I can get. I sent in an essay to Contiki and the SJHL," he said.
He has also won community awards in each of the three cities he's played Junior hockey in. He won two years ago while playing with the Terriers, last year while playing in LaRonge and this year, as a 20-year-old with Estevan.
He's also got both a league award and a team award from the Bruins organization.
Danyluk told the paper that he's done the most community work with the Terriers but was "disappointed with the Terrier organization" for not making it public that he won the European Magic Trip.
Although, he said, he was acknowledged by team president Don Chesney.
He told the paper that the Mel Hegland Uniplex in LaRonge was to announce his win during game five of the SJHL finals when two of his former teams took each other on that night.
