The Yorkton Harvest appeared to put forth a better effort on a road trip to Tisdale last Thursday evening, outshooting the Trojans 28-24.
Tisdale had a stronger showing in the last two periods where they scored three times in each.
They went on to win, 7-5.
The score was tied at 1-1 after one period. Tisdale held a 4-3 advantage after two periods.
Jeff Odgers, head coach of the Harvest, said the team played well enough to win just didn't get the last break.
The major highlight of the match had to be a four-goal night by Harvest newcomer Jake McMillen.
"It was an amazing individual performance," offered Odgers following McMillen's four-goal night, then added he could have had even more.
The six-foot-one, left winger from Carleville, Sk., put on quite the show last Thursday night.
He got the opening goal 30 seconds into the game. Tanner Lesann and Jeffrey Ness drew the assists.
Odgers added that it was the kind of night where one kid would basically steal the show and nearly win it.
"He's been a solid player for us. He's in all the right places. He does all the right things," Odgers went on.
Tisdale drew even with 11 seconds remaining when JJ Coleshaw tied it, sending the teams to the dressing room deadlocked at 1-1.
McMillen got his second of the game at 16:57 of the second period.
Lynnden Pastachak and Brayden Park drew the assists to temporarily restore the lead.
Odgers acknowledged that Yorkton finished with a 28-24 shots-on-goal advantage and outchanced Tisdale, too.
The loss was simply a matter of not getting "a break".
But Tisdale got two back in a five-minute timespan to pull ahead 3-2.
McMillen would round out his hat trick with an unassisted goal at 5:09 of the second to tie the game at 3-3, but Tisdale's Brayden Gelsinger would score to make it 4-3 Trojans late in the second period.
McMillen's fourth of the game and Dakota Odgers scored to round out the Harvest scoring in the third period. Gelsinger, Coleshaw and Ty McLean added one into the empty net to round out the 7-5 win.
Teryn Phaneuf took the loss in the Harvest net.
He stopped 24 of 30 shots, while Braven MacPherson won the game in the Tisdale net, stopping 28 of 33 shots.
Tisdale added to their lead atop the SMAAAHL standings with a perfect 5-0 record through five games.
With the loss, Yorkton sits in second last place, with a 1-8 record, just above the Battlefords, who remain the league's only winless team at 0-7.
The Harvest are a club with a total of 14 rookies, including a goaltender.
McMillen currently leads in goalscoring with 12 points, while three others have at least seven.
Three of the team's top five scorers are players new to Saskatchewan Midget AAA.
