The Deer Park Haas-Nissan Senior Men's Open was held last Wednesday at the Deer Park Municipal Golf Course.
Over 144 golfers took part in what was the last of four Opens held at the Yorkton golf course over the past week. The juniors, men's, ladies and senior men's rounded out the tournaments.

The senior men's was divided into two groups, the senior 55-70 and the super senior 70+.

Ken Cymbalisty placed first in the Championship Flite when he shot 74 over 18 holes.
He won by three strokes over Ed Ivanchuk.

In the senior 55-70, Ray Shaw won top spot with a 76 over the 18 holes. He won by six strokes over Wally Fleury, who placed second with 83.

Len Chicoine, one of eight members of the Deer Park senior men's committee said the number of interested golfers in this year's tournament was so high, they were forced to create a waiting list; by the tournament's start date, which was last Wednesday morning, that list had about 14 names on it.

"It was a full house," said Chicoine, of this year's senior men's open. An email was sent out to clubs, including Regina, Fort Qu'Appelle, North Battleford and Roblin, he said.

He noted that the final scores in each of the numerous Flites, was another part of the reason that this year's open was solid in terms of numbers and scores.

The winner in the senior 55-70 (Cymbalisty) came away with 72 over 18 holes, while the winner of the super senior 70+, shot 76.

"The scores were lower then last year in both divisions," says Chicoine, who added that most of the participants are "frequent golfers".

Shaw, who had finished at the top of the Championship Flite at the end of the day, said "to was a pretty good day".
He played best on the third and 16th holes, and added that he said he "looked good after the first round of nine".
For his winning score of 76, he took home a plaque, some cash and some other surprises.

In the super senior 70+ division, Shaw won top spot. Wally Fleury and Brent Moore both finished with an identical score of 83, however Fleury placed ahead by countback. Steve Kuzek finished in fourth place with 84 and Barry Whitta rounded out the top five with 86 in the Championship Flite.

Other Flite winners from the day included: Ron Daum (92-1st Flite) and Duncan Acton (100-2nd Flite).
Other Flite winners from the senior 55-70 included: Cymbalisty placed first with 74 in the Championship Flite, Iwanchuk placed second with 77, Murray Stewart came in third with 78, Darryl Binklye had 79 for fourth place and Jerry Halyk came in fifth with 80 in the Championship Flite.

Norm Achtemichuk placed first in the First Flite (87), Brian Cotton placed first in the Second Flite (93), Myron Kirk placed first in the 3rd Flite (96) and Ed Clark rounded out the division placing first in the 4th Flite (104).
