The Harvest of Yorkton did something they may not have ever done before.
They actually did a couple things they've never done before.
"Today was by far the best 60 minutes (of hockey we've played) this year," claimed head coach of the Yorkton Harvest, Graham Garrett.
He's never said that before.
The other major news story coming out of this game that hasn't happened is they leapfrogged the team they just beat in the standings.
The Beardy's Blackhawks were ahead of the Harvest in the standings going into Saturday's matchup.
By Sunday evening after the second game, Yorkton holds a one-point lead on the Blackhawks.
"The whole idea is your hoping the guys are buying into the way we play," testifies Garrett following a 7-2 victory at the Gallagher Centre. The two wins over the weekend put the Harvest at .500 with a record of 10-10. They also have one tie and two OT losses.
Four Yorkton players contributed two or more points in the victory, while seven different skaters scored goals and goaltender Spencer Bomboir, who is in his first season at the Midget AAA level stood his ground. Dustin Skilliter and Josh Lees put the home side up 2-0. Skilliter notched the opener on the power play from Ben Johnstone and Kody Thue. Lees scored at even strength from Yanni Mamais and Devan Fafard.
The Blackhawks would get one back from Colton Laroque on a power play.
Yorkton outscored Beardy's 3-1 in the second, getting goals from Gage Rapitta, Levi Cable and Roddy Sewap. Beardy's second and final goal of the day came from Braden Oleksyn. Two more Yorkton goals in the final period came off the sticks of John Odgers and Ben Johnstone.
Following the victory, Garrett said even though the score suggests domination, he wasn't prepared to use that word to describe the victory.
"I think we played better than they did. "
Skilliter acknowledged that it was good to finally put forth what was clearly their best effort of the year.
"Yeah, we came to the rink and finally played a full 60 minutes. It was a full 60 for sure."
