The grades 5, 6 and 7 classes of Canora Composite School enjoyed a field trip to Jubilee Park in Yorkton on June 2 when they attended a Western Major Baseball League game between the Yorkton Cardinals and the Swift Current Indians.
A few days earlier Yorkton pitcher Kody Rock went to the school and taught the students a few things about baseball and opportunities for scholarships at Universities across Canada and the USA. At the game the students met with players/students from all over Canada and the United States.
The game was attended by about 750 students of the Good Spirit School Division and Rock, a former CCS student, was Yorkton’s starting pitcher. The game itself turned into a classic pitchers’ duel and Rock pitched a complete game going nine innings. He allowed one unearned run, five hits and struck out 10 Swift Current batters in leading the Cardinals to a 3-1 victory.
After the game, students got to interact with all the players in the team dugout, then Rock, the teachers, supervisors, the Cougar mascot and students got together for a group picture.
