After winning gold in a tournament in Moosomin, Canora Composite School’s senior girls basketball team continued the season by bringing home second place in a “tough” tournament.

The CCS senior girls basketball team attended a tournament in Birch Hills on January 13 and 14, when they won second place. Curtis Baillie, coach for the team, said when speaking of the upcoming tournament that the event always featured many tough teams, but it appears that the girls held their own.

The girls started with a win over Hepburn School on January 13, defeating the team 55-48.

A second match was against the “very strong” Hague High School team and Canora managed to win 57-43.

“Canora got out to an early lead and was able to maintain it through the entire game,” said Baillie.

The final match was played against a team from Asquith, which won 54-34.

Baillie said that the girls played very well and are prepared for their home tournament to be held on January 27 and 28.
