There isn't much time left in the traditional 2011 summer camping season but if Shawn Frankfurt and the Broken Arrow Archery Club work it right, it could be a pretty good ending to it.

The Broken Arrow Archery Club, located about 19 kilometres outside of Yorkton, is off the Yellowhead Highway westbound.

The archery course is looking to attract some more attention with its outdoor course which allows shooters to fire arrows at sponge replicas of wild animals.

Frankfurt is hoping to give the club's membership numbers a bit of a boost, he said.

The youth who participate are doing well in terms of numbers however, he would like to see a rise in adult membership.

The adult membership is "significantly down" he said recently.

He added that the "purpose is to gain some interest in this".

The Broken Arrow archery club offers shooters a unique array of targets ranging from giant elk to small boars.

"It simulates a hunting scenario," says Frankfurt.

He said there is a group that meets at the range each Wednesday at 6 p.m., to take in some archery shooting.

Also part of the club is a small campground complete with a firepit, picnic tables and room for several small tents.

The club has been in operation since 1969, said Frankfurt.

The course at the Broken Arrow club includes bag targets as well as 3D targets to shoot at. The membership to join the club is an annual fee of $25 for adults, which allows access to the range anytime and includes family camping.

Anyone interested in taking in the experience is encouraged to contact Frankfurt at 783-8006 or Kordell Roberts, 783-8377.
