YORKTON - Kidsport Yorkton was given a holiday season boost Thursday as Ron Kaban Dealer Principal with Yorkton Hyundai made a presentation of $3,900.

Doug Jonasson with Kidsport said the donation is welcome as the number of applications for help is growing.

In 2022, locally more than $30,000 was issued to help 89 youth.

“Most of it is raised locally,” Jonasson said of the money then paid out in grants. While some does come via government, most is raised by donations like the one made by Yorkton Hyundai.

Jonasson noted currently they are in the midst of the organization’s ‘Give the Gift of Sports campaign,’ which has already eclipsed $10,000 and runs until Jan. 8.

Through a network of local chapters, Kidsport provides grants to help cover the costs of enrolment so that all kids aged 5-18 years in Saskatchewan can play a season of sport.

Jonasson said requests for help are varied.

“Name a sport – any sport in Yorkton,” he said, adding the list includes hockey and baseball, soccer, taekwondo and others.

Ultimately it doesn’t matter which sport as long as grants help youth play.

“We want every kid off the sidelines,” said Jonasson.

If you want to apply for a Kidsport grant or learn more about the program details, contact the local chapter. If your community doesn’t yet have a local chapter, your grant will come through the provincial office.
