Lately the news has been filled about a meeting with world leaders as to how to stop global warming. It is a massive problem yet there are ways we, as individuals, can contribute our efforts to this cause in a small way.
Perhaps we all got too comfortable with our lifestyle, not thinking of the consequences that result. With modern technology we embraced the new finding to make our life easier not realizing there are negative outcomes related to the new advancements years later. We love our vehicles to the extent that there must be more than one gracing our driveways. Even going a short way, it is more convenient with a vehicle. The days of walking or biking were taken over by this must have. Also gone are the horse and buggy days. Whoever thought that there was a carbon print associated with our driving?聽
Combating global warming can start at home. Do we really need the lights on in rooms when we are not there? Do we need the TV on for the same reason? How about the tub-filled baths and long showers; are they really necessary? What about the drafty windows and doors? Maybe we should install new ones or else insulate or weather strip what we have? Maybe our appliances are energy guzzlers and they should be up-dated to energy efficient ones? This will make a noticeable difference on the power bill. Does the heat need to be cranked up in the winter and the air conditioner on all the time in summer? Can we recycle wastes from the home with composting and taking papers and such to recycling places? How about the packaging of items coming and leaving the home, how can they be reduced? Christmas time is an ideal time to showcase all the waste in packaging and wrappings which are thrown away in the garage.
Common sense things, but do we do our best to follow them? This may be a small contribution with big results especially in the energy sector.
