Members of the Kamsack Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) were on hand to serve pancakes and sausages, give tours and more on August 24 at the Kamsack Fire Hall.
“It’s a bit rainy this morning,” said Ken Thompson, fire chief. “That may have helped to bring people out for a pancake breakfast.”
Estimating that around 100 people were served hot pancakes with syrup, sausages, muffins and refreshments, Thompson said the event, organized by Kristin Johnson, KVFD lieutenant, was “a big success.”
In addition to serving breakfast, volunteer firefighters gave tours of the fire hall and youngsters were given rides in the pumper truck by Bruce Thomsen, assistant fire chief.
There were souvenirs for the youngsters to take home including plastic firefighter hats and coloring books.
“All proceeds will be donated to the Eaglestone Lodge Personal Care Home,” said Thompson. “We acknowledge Kristin Johnson for all her hard work in organizing this event.”
People from Canora and Churchbridge were among the attendees.
The Babb and Spokes families of Canora had heard about the event and made the decision to drive to Kamsack “in support of the Kamsack Volunteer Fire Department.”
There will be a hazmat (hazardous materials) course for first responders offered in Kamsack at the OCC Hall on September 20 to 22,” said Thompson. “So far we have 22 registrants from this area including Kamsack, Churchbridge, Canora, Yorkton and Rhein. The course instructors will be coming from Ottawa and Vancouver to conduct this Pro-Board certified course.”
