Various appointments made at town council鈥檚 first meeting of new year

Making appointments to various committees and organizations was the focus of Canora town council鈥檚 first meeting of the year on January 5. For the standing committees (portfolios), the first person named is the chairperson.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 For the standing committees (portfolios), the first person named is the chairperson. Appointed to general government were Councillors Matt Nehaj and James Trofimenkoff; protective services, Councillors Syl Hrynkiw and Gerald Wolkowski; public works, Trofimenkoff and Hrynkiw; environment and health, Councillors Cory O鈥橠ell and Brad Gabora; recreation and culture, Gabora and O鈥橠ell; and planning and development, Wolkowski and Nehaj.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The firm of Rusnak Balacko Kachur Rusnak was appointed town solicitor while Collins Barrow was appointed auditor.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Under the heading of 鈥渋nspectors,鈥 David Wasyliw, the senior public works operator, was appointed inspector for untidy premises and for Dutch elm disease. Pry Security was appointed the bylaw enforcement officer. Meridan Inspection Services was appointed the building inspector.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Michael Mykytyshyn, the chief administration officer, was appointed assessor and treasurer.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Hrynkiw, with Wolkowski as the alternate, was appointed to the Canora and District Fire Protection Board.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Wolkowski, with Mayor Gina Rakochy as the alternate, was appointed to the East Central Tourism Region board.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Hrynkiw was appointed to the Canora Welcome Statue Committee.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Appointed to the staff occupational health and safety committee were: O鈥橠ell (with Gabora as the alternate), Mykytyshyn, Courtney Bourassa (town鈥檚 administrative assistant), two town employees to be named, and one member of the fire department to be named.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Appointed to the Community Planning Commission were: Wolkowski, Nehaj, Rod Petrychyn, Glenn Dutchak and Deryl Ortynsky.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Bill Foreman and Ernie Gabora were appointed to the Development Appeals Board.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Mayor Rakochy, with O鈥橠ell as an alternate, was appointed to the Canora and District Community Benevolent Fun Administrative Committee.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Trofimenkoff was appointed to the District 19 Joint Committee and to the Upper Assiniboine River Basin Study Committee. Trofimenkoff and Hrynkiw were appointed to the North East Area Transportation Planning committee.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Wasyliw and Wes Popoff, the water treatment plant operator, were appointed to the North Eastern Municipalities Association.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 O鈥橠ell, with Gabora as the alternate, was appointed to the Canora Special Transportation Association.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Hrynkiw, with O鈥橠ell as the alternate, was appointed to the Canora Public Utility Board. The town鈥檚 appointees are non-voting representatives.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Vince Bailey was appointed the pest control officer.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Appointed to the Community (Economic) Development Commission were: Wolkowski (with Nehaj as the alternate), O鈥橠ell, Dana Antonovitch, Jeff Bisschop, Bill Reaume, Russell Bartko, Al Babb and Ernie Gazdewich.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Gabora, with O鈥橠ell as the alternate, was appointed to the Leisure Services Board. Also appointed to the board were: Kelsey Magnusson, Arlette Bogucky, Crystal Reine, Kendall Hudye, Tannis Olson, Bob Kolodziejski and two representatives of the Canora Composite School to be named.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Appointed to the tourism committee were: Wolkowski (with Behaj as the alternate), Brandi Zavislak (community development officer), Joy Stusek, Val Morozoff, Ken Wasyliw, Rod Petrychyn, Karen Wishlow, Glen Wilson and Candace Doogan.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Nehaj, with Trofimenkoff as the alternate, was appointed to the Canora Community Child Care Centre.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Rakochy was appointed to the Parkland College president鈥檚 advisory council.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Hrynkiw was appointed to the Whitesand River Advisory Committee.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 O鈥橠ell and Gabora were appointed to the Canora and District Health Care Foundation.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Gabora, with Hrynkiw as the alternate, was appointed to the Good Spirit Provincial Park Advisory Group.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 In addition to the control committee also appointed to the Emergency Measures Organization Committee were Rakochy, Nehaj and Hrynkiw.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Randy Molyneaux was appointed the Emergency Measures Organization Co-ordinator.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Gabora, with Trofiminekoff as the alternate, was appointed to the Canora Composite School Community Council.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Appointed as pest control contractors were: Greg Landstad, Garry Landstad, Grant Landstad, Nestor Dutchak, Chester Dutchak, Darcy Dutchak and all public works employees.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The following custom work rates for town equipment were set: half-ton truck, $34.25/hr or $0.37/kilometre; one-ton truck, $48.00/hr; three-ton truck, $57.50/hr plus sand; compressor, $48.00/hr; jackhammer, $34.25/hr; sweeper, $116.50/hr; boiler, $57.50/hr; Model D grader, $61.50/hr; Cat 140 grader, $88.75/hr; Case W24 loader, $95.75/hr; Case 621 loader, $95.75/hr; welder, $33.00/hr; sewer cleaning, $102.50/hr; water line thawing, $44.50/hr; riding mower, $41.00/hr; tractor w/3 pt. Hitch, $105.00/hr; line painting, $27.50/hr plus labour and paint; Bobcat w/bucket, $75.25/hr; Bobcat w/attachments, $102.50/hr; backhoe, 聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 $95.75/hr; and UTV, $34.25/hr.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 These rates do not include operator costs which are $52.50 per hour (OT rate is $78.75 per hour). Labour rate is $52.50 per hour (OT rate is $78.75 per hour). The overtime rate applies to time outside of regular working hours.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The cost for sand is $32 per cubic yard.

For electrical needs, council approved contracting Gabora Electric and DH Electric.

For plumbing needs, council approved contracting Nehaj Enterprises and Renegade Plumbing and Heating.
