Town council deals with paving program, new mower and off-leash dog park

The town鈥檚 2016 paving program, the purchase of a mower and an off-leash dog park were among items to concern town council at its regular meeting on May 9.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 The town鈥檚 2016 paving program, the purchase of a mower and an off-leash dog park were among items to concern town council at its regular meeting on May 9.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Council approved a decision to transfer the micro-surfacing budget to the paving budget and proceed with asphalt patching and/or repairing only in 2016. A total of about $200,000 has been budgeted for the work.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A recommendation from the town superintendent to award the tender for a zero-turn mower to Nykolaishen Farm Equipment for the purchase of a 2016 JD Z970R mower for a cost of $17,061 was approved.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 It was agreed to poll the community to determine if there is sufficient community interest to move forward with the planning of an off-leash dog park.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Approval was granted to a decision to locate a basketball net at the Kamsack Skate Park rather than on town property adjacent to the ambulance building on Queen Elizabeth Boulevard.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 It was agreed to tender for engineering service for the required testing to confirm the town鈥檚 water supply should be classified as non-GUDI (Groundwater Under Direct Influence).

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Council decided that the policy regarding the use of town property would be reviewed and until the review is complete no new applications to use town property shall be approved.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A recommendation of the Kamsack Volunteer Fire Department executive to have Dillan Chernoff join the department was accepted.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 It was agreed to award the Crowstand cleaning tender to Greg Leis and to attempt to negotiate a lower tender for the town office cleaning.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Council acknowledged the receipt of a letter from the RM of Cote advising of an immediate fire ban in the municipality but council decided to postpone issuing a similar ban for within town limits.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 June was proclaimed Recreation and Parks Month and the first Saturday in June was proclaimed National Health and Fitness Day in Kamsack.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A request from Terry Hladun to salvage hallway doors from the former Assiniboine School was approved.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Councillor Joe Kozakewich agreed to represent the town at the 2016 graduation exercises for the Parkland College on June 10.
