“Absolutely awesome,” and “a great success” were two of the comments made by organizers of the annual Togo Snowmobile Derby and Irondog Vintage Derby held February 18.
“Everyone I spoke to had very positive comments about the day,” said Mayor Loretta Erhardt, an organizer of the derby. “Many said they were pleased with the trails and those on the Iron Dog route commented on the beautiful scenery.”
“We had people from near as well as from Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Virden, Man. and from Alberta,” Erhardt said, adding that some participants commented on the “rough wind” but said that there was more snow on the route than they had had from where they were from.
On the route there were areas with fresh “powder” snow which prompted some participants to go off trail and they said they enjoyed that experience, she said. A few people said they were attending their first such derby and had such a great time that they said they would be returning.
“All-in-all, I’ve heard nothing negative about the derby,” Erhardt said.
The derby attracted 105 vintage machines and 109 regular snowmobiles, said Amanda Burback, an organizer. That amount is slightly more than last year.
