February 4, 1981- The financing plan for the proposed curling rink at Canora has to be altered and the whole community has to accept the responsibility for raising its share of the funds immediately, stated Mayor Lorne Kopelchuk.

February 4, 1981- Approximately $1,000 damage was reported to a 1975 pickup truck driven by David Shymanski, 27, of Canora, when the vehicle struck a tree. Shymanski was travelling east on Eighth Avenue in Canora, at approximately 2:30 p.m. He claimed that the wheels of his truck became stuck in the ruts on the street, and as he applied the brakes, the vehicle slid into a tree on the south side of the street. No injuries were reported.

February 11, 1981- Three Canora residents are on the newly-installed executive of the Yorkton and District Ukrainian Professional and Business Association, including the club鈥檚 president, Paul Ortynsky. Other Canora members are Steve Kobrynsky, secretary, and Evan Ortynsky, social director.

February 18, 1981- Members of the Canora United Church youth group took part in a paper drive. Ricky Hydeman and Leanne, Roxine and Robert Jackson were among the 18 persons who participated in the drive with Rev. George Cargo in charge.

February 25, 1981- John Swetlishnoff of Canora was among the five sportsmen from across the province to receive a certificate of merit for meritorious service in regards to the firearm safety program at the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation鈥檚 52nd annual convention. Swetlishnoff has graduated approximately 200 students in the Canora area since he began teach the firearm safety program in 1970.
