We are ecstatic to inform our readers that the writing staff of The Outlook have once again found themselves up for a number of awards at the 2021 Better Newspapers Competition, which is typically hosted as part of the convention held by the Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association.
Reporter and weekly columnist Derek Ruttle has landed a nomination for Best Business Writing for his article on the plans for a future marina at the Sandy Shores Resort development on Lake Diefenbaker (‘Marina Plans for Lake Resort Shaping Up’), as well as a nomination for Best Government Coverage for his spotlight feature on Outlook’s newly-elected mayor last November, Maureen Weiterman (‘Humber Mayor-elect Weiterman makes Outlook history’).
Columnist Shelley Luedtke finds herself in the running for Columnist of the Year for ‘My Outlook’, as well as for Best Saskatchewan Arts or Cultural Series of Stories for shedding light on the province’s first Black settlement (‘Saskatchewan’s first Black settlement holds stories to learn from’), as well as for Best Health/Healthcare Coverage for her COVID piece that went around the world (‘Coping with COVID-19 around the world’).
The awards will be unveiled during an online-only event scheduled to be held on May 17.
