We here at the offices of The Outlook/Outlook Printers are exceptionally proud to say that we’ve been nominated for four awards in the Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association’s annual Better Newspapers Competition!

The competition is held in conjunction with the SWNA’s Annual General Meeting and highlights the best, the brightest, and the importance of community newspapers across the province.

Reporter/columnist Derek Ruttle is up for the award of ‘Best News Story of the Year’ for the headline-making and attention-grabbing story that ended up sprouting out of Ruttle’s attempt to obtain answers to a number of questions that were posed to the Town of Outlook’s mayor, Ross Derdall, last spring.

Writer/columnist Shelley Luedtke is up for ‘Best Educational Coverage K-12 Story or Feature’ for her story entitled, ‘In the Halls of Outlook’s Schools’ which explored how educators go about reviewing each school year and planning the next one.  Luedtke is also up for ‘Best Feature Story’ for her article, ‘The Man and the Magic Behind the Beard’, her exclusive interview with Santa Claus himself.

The Outlook newspaper also finds itself in the running for Best Front Page in the Class B ranking.

The Better Newspapers Competition award presentations were originally set to take place on Saturday, May 2 but due to the situation surrounding COVID-19, they will instead take place on the rescheduled date of Saturday, September 26.
