SWF measures three times the number of antlers as last year

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 The deer population is coming back, Riley Barrowman, president of the Kamsack branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation, said last week as members had their trophies scored.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e鈥檝e got a lot of good sized animals,鈥 Barrowman said December 13 when he surveyed the collection of deer, elk and moose antlers spread out on the floor at the Broda Sportsplex mezzanine waiting to be measured.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Barrowman said that in total they measured four elk trophies, each one over 300 inches, which is very good; three moose; more than 20 white-tailed and mule deer, and one bear skull.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭his was about three times the number than were measured last year,鈥 he said. In addition over 50 memberships to the SWF were sold.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Measuring the antlers and the bear skull were Heath Dreger of Yorkton, the president of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and official measurer for the Boone and Crocket, Henry Kelsey and Pope and Young organizations.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Also measuring was Clint Chernoff, former president of the Kamsack branch and district delegate.
