The Sturgis Kinsmen miracle 38th annual marathon was a combined effort of the Sturgis Composite School students, staff and Kinsmen members as they made their way back to Sturgis from Canora on March 1.
"The Town of Canora was canvassed prior to the marathon with $2,100 raised," said Brad Cameron, principal.
Along the highway the group had $1,960 donated and an additional $495 in pledges were made. The marathon raised a total of $4,292.
Participants who braved the cold to run from Canora to Sturgis, raising funds along the way, were: Jalen Bayer, Garrett Bazuik, JR Puyos, Zane Bayer, Bo Babiuk, Carter Masley and Elijah Hort.
Student representative members were: Kaeleigh Folk, Peyton Secundiak, Shanae Olson, Cole Kowalchuk and Sierra Meroniuk.
Volunteer drivers were: Jim Prekaski, Dale Lisoway, Neil Christopherson and Terry Hancock.
Kinsmen members participating were: Tyler Blender, Daniel Wasylenchuk, Dean Serdachny, Brad Cameron, Conrad Peterson and Keith Babiuk.
"We want to thank Ron Wagar, a Sturgis Kinsmen lifetime member, for working on the new signs for the marathon, as well as Craig Folk and Jim Prekaski, who are both Sturgis Kinsmen members, for building the stands for the new signs," said Cameron.
Sponsors for the marathon were: Crossroads Credit Union; Gateway Coop; The Fox-GX-94; Gabano's Pizza and Sportsfactor.
Andy and Darlene Oystryk of Blue Spruce Ranch hosted a location for the group to have lunch.
