The Sturgis branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation hosted its annual antler measuring event at the Sturgis Arena on December 9 when club members took in 18 sets of antlers and one bear skull to be scored.

Blair Mitchell was the official antler measurer.

There were two moose, three elk, one bear, three mule deer and 10 white-tailed deer measured.

"We had good turnout with some potential record-breaking antlers," said Rob Wilcott, president of the Sturgis branch. The club had a quiet year, he said, adding that the group鈥檚 annual awards event is scheduled for April 13.

The club is looking into replacing the building at the gun range this spring. Wilcott also added that, "We want to inform the public to not put their hides in the habitat hide shacks. The Saskatchewan Wildlife Association does not have any buyers for the hides at this point.鈥

The Sturgis branch hosted its annual general meeting on December 2 with discussion focused on the new no trespassing law and a new executive was elected. The club also made a donation to Filling the Gap, stated Wilcott.

The executive for the new year are: Wilcott as president; Allen Carlson, vice-president and membership chairperson; Daniel Wasylenchuk, secretary and treasurer; Kelly Masley, awards chairperson, and Russell Walker and Ashten Langille, fundraiser chairpersons. Directors are, Tom Babchishin, Mervin Blender, Terry Hancock, Brent Strand, Sheri Kozar, Bert Suknasky, Chris Walker, Myles Zawislak and Clint Zubko.
