Sturgis sports weekend included gymkhana events

The Etomaimie Valley Riders horse club sponsored a gymkhana event on the Sturgis sports weekend on June 22 and 23.

The Etomaimie Valley Riders horse club sponsored a gymkhana event on the Sturgis sports weekend on June 22 and 23.

"Riders in the weepee, peewee, junior and seniors’ categories all competed in events throughout the weekend," said Darlene Walker, one of the organizers.

In the weepee barrels on Saturday, Ella Sywenky of Hudson Bay won first followed by Emma Young of Weekes in second and Bryce Sutchoplast of Benito, who placed third.

On Sunday, Young won first place, Sywenky second and Mercedes Lindholm of Lintlaw took third. Sywenky was the two-day high point winner.

In the weepee poles event on Saturday and Sunday, Ella Sywenky won first on both days and was the two-day high point winner for both days. Emma Young won second and Jade Beatty of Sturgis won third on both days.

In the weepee games on Saturday, Sywenky won first, Young second and Arianna Neilson of Preeceville won third place. On Sunday, Young won first place, Sywenky second and Thea Young of Hudson Bay won third. Sywenky was the two-day high point winner.

Clay Kabatoff of Wroxton was the only other competitor.

In the peewee barrels on Saturday, Kaisley Hrabarchuk of Benito won first and third place on two different horses. Shyann Lindholm of Lintlaw took second. On Sunday, Lindholm won first place, Kadyence Boychuk of Hudson Bay took second and Kaisley Hrabarchuk placed third. Lindholm was the two-day high point winner.

In the peewee poles on Saturday, Hrabarchuk won first and second place on two different horses. Austin Sywenky of Hudson Bay placed third. On Sunday, Raia Sywenky of Hudson Bay won first, Lindholm placed second and Hrabarchuk won third place. Hrabarchuk was also the two-day high point winner.

In the peewee games on Saturday, Tristen Beatty of Sturgis won first place, Lindholm placed second and Raia Sywenky placed third. On Sunday, Raia Sywenky placed first, Trey Hrabarchuk of Benito placed second and Austin Sywenky took third. Raia Sywenky was the two-day high point winner.

Other competitors were: Levi Hamilton of Hudson Bay, Savannah Neilson of Preeceville, Sarah Foster of Benito and Ty Northrop of Norquay.

In the junior barrels on Saturday, Hannah Jack of Wadena placed first. There were no second or third place winners. On Sunday, Jack won first place and Aleah Kabatoff of Wadena placed second. Jack was the two-day high point winner.

In the junior poles on Saturday, Jack won first placed and Kabatoff placed second. Jack was the two-day high point winner. Jack also placed first in the junior games.

Kalei Pinno of Yorkton was the only other competitor.

In the senior barrels event on Saturday, Jodi Sutchoplast of Benito placed first, Lexie Young of Preeceville won second and Heather Schmitt of Arborfield placed third. On Sunday, Twyla Salmond of Hudson Bay placed first, Sutchoplast second and Schmitt finished third. Sutchoplast was the two-day high point winner.

In the senior poles event on Saturday, Sutchoplast won first and second (on different horses) and Ronnie Prekaski of Sturgis took third place. On Sunday, Sutchoplast won first, Salmond second and Blaze Peterson of Porcupine won third. Sutchoplast was the two-day high point winner.

In the senior games on Saturday, Sutchoplast won first, second and third (on different horses.) On Sunday, Sutchoplast won first place, Ronnie Prekaski took second and Jessica Malinsheski of Foam Lake won third. Sutchoplast was the two-day high point winner.

Other competitors were: Brittany Pocock of St. Gregor, Reden Hodgetts of Lintlaw, Rebecca Maksymiw of Yorkton, Deanne Sywenky and Annie Kabatoff.
