Sturgis sports weekend included gymkhana events

The Etomaimie Valley Riders horse club sponsored a gymkhana event on the Sturgis sports weekend on September 3 and 4. "Riders in the weepee, peewee, junior and seniors’ categories all competed in events throughout the weekend," said Darlene Walker.

            In the weepee barrels category there were 13 entries. Saturday and Sunday events featured Marty Salmond of Weekes winning first place and third (on different horses), and Jorja Salmond of Weekes winning second. Marty Salmond was the high-point winner.

            In the weepee poles event on Saturday, Jorja Salmond won first, while Marty Salmond won second and third (on different horses). On Sunday, Marty Salmond won first and third (on different horses) and Jorja Salmond won second. Marty Salmond was the high-point winner.

            In the weepee games on Saturday, Marty Salmond won first; Quinn Longman of Kelvington won second and Jorja Salmond won third. On Sunday, Marty Salmomd won first; Quinn Longman won second, and Jorja Salmond won third. Marty Salmond was the high-point winner.

            Other competitors were: Dallas Liebrecht of Saltcoats, Emma Young of Weekes, Savannah Neilson of Preeceville, Ryder Fullerton of Swan River, Marcoy Galloway of Swan River, Alex Neilson of Preeceville and Saphira and Deagan Anaka of Sturgis.

            In the peewee barrels, poles and games on Saturday and Sunday, Klai Longman of Kelvington won first and Holden Fulletom of Swan River placed second. Klai Longman was the high-point winner for all three events.

            In the junior category of barrels on Saturday, Lexie Young of Preeceville won first and third (on different horses) and Brooke Boychuk of Hudson Bay won second. On Sunday, Brooke Boychuk won first, Dakota Longman of Kelvington won second and Lexie Young won third. Brooke Boychuk was the high-point winner.

            In the junior pole events, Brooke Boychuk won first; Lexie Young won second, and Dakota Longman, third. On Sunday, Brooke Boychuk won first; Shelby Kovach of Hudson Bay won second, and Dakota Longman won third. Brooke Boychuk was the high-point winner.

            In the senior barrels event, Lydia Riopka of Pilot Butte won first; Megan Liebrecht of Swan River won second and Shannon Fullerton of Swan River won third. On Sunday, Yvonne Salmond of Weekes won first; Colleen Galloway of Swan River won second and Ronnie Prekaski of Linlaw won third. Colleen Galloway was the high-point winner on both days.

            In the senior poles event, Shannon Fullerton won first; Colleen Galloway won second and Lydia Riopka won third. On Sunday, Yvonne Young won first; Shannon Fullerton won second, and Colleen Galloway won third. Shannon Fullerton was the two-day high-point winner.

            Other competitors were Shandy Wegwitz of Kelvington and Twyla Salmond of Porcupine Plain.
