Students and staff welcomed parents to join them in Education Week celebrations from October 21 to 24. The activities highlighted a book fair and family literacy night on October 23 and a pancake breakfast on October 24.
The family literacy night featured the theme of camping with seven stations. A welcome station was where parents and students picked up a family guide and the feedback survey. Other station featured door prizes, hot chocolate and s'more cookies. campfire reading, self-directed Yoga, campfire games and literacy information.
Parents were encouraged to visit classrooms that showcased their children鈥檚 work.
The Sturgis Student Representative council (SRC) has also been busy with numerous activities held during the months of September and October.
"We hosted a supper in the field fundraiser that sold 300 plates with us delivering some of the meals in the local area," said Kylie Babiuk, SRC representative. "We pre-sold plates that featured scalloped potatoes, pork loin, Caesar salad, spring rolls, homemade buns, dessert and drink. The response was great. We hope to do it as an annual event.鈥
Olymel donated the meat, Co-op donated the drinks, the SRC did the potatoes, Gail Peterson provided the buns, Geendale Vicente donated spring rolls and the staff and SRC provided the desserts.
Some of the other activities sponsored by the SRC include: spirit days, a Halloween costume parade and a twelve days of Christmas event followed by the big Christmas banquet for high school students and staff.
