Story Walk to be discovered on Elbow trail

The hiking trails in and around the village of Elbow draw many people in when the weather is nice and the outdoor conditions are just begging to be enjoyed.

The hiking trails in and around the village of Elbow draw many people in when the weather is nice and the outdoor conditions are just begging to be enjoyed.

As it turns out, one of those trails in the lakeside community is unearthing a story 小蓝视频 told along the way.

It's called a Story Walk, courtesy of Loreburn Central School librarian, Ashley Stamnes.聽 She was asked by the school's community council to develop the walk, with suggestions that it be interactive with things for kids to do on the walk as they also read the story.

The Story Walk is said to be an example of the Sun West School Division's Personalized electronic Blended Learning philosophy in action.

To access the trail, you can begin the walk on the walking trail above the boat launch area and proceed north, stopping at the different stations along the way.聽 There are several interactive stations along the trail, with a few take-home projects.聽 Those accessing the trail for this activity may want to bring a bag for any take-home items.

The story 小蓝视频 highlighted on the trail is entitled, 'The Gruffalo' by Julia Donaldson.

Stamnes says she knew that she wanted the Story Walk to involve nature, so she approached the Elbow Trail Committee for permission to set up the walk on the small section of the trail that goes along the boat launch.聽 She picked 'The Gruffalo' because of its outdoor themes, fitting in nicely with the walking trail's surroundings.

Outside of the trail and the story, the walk will also encourage participants to move their bodies with activities, as well as craft kits that students can take home that include character rocks and headbands.聽 One of the stations even includes a recipe card for something called 'Gruffalo Paws'.

Stamnes is excited about the trail and hopes it proves popular with readers and young kids.

The Story Walk trail wraps up with its last day on May 31, so readers, outdoor enthusiasts and their kids may want to make plans to check it out this coming weekend.
