If you weren’t one of the approximately 330 people who packed the Outlook Civic Centre last week to take in the live stage show by touring group SaskExpress, you may have missed out on the musical performance of the year after a supremely talented young cast of singers and performers did their best in blowing the roof off the building.
The show took place on Thursday night, August 22, taking the Outlook audience on a trip through the movies, generation by generation, by way of its musical entitled, ‘Reel Music’. Told in the style of a movie trailer, the show takes viewers on a journey through the history of iconic musical compositions that have been heard in some of the biggest motion pictures of all time.
The show packs in musical pieces that span multiple generations of Hollywood; from the days of Charlie Chaplin and Judy Garland to the dance numbers from ‘Grease’ and ‘Saturday Night Fever’, from Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ to ‘Frozen’, all the way up to contemporary movies such as ‘The World’s Greatest Showman’ to the 2018 adaptation of ‘A Star Is Born’.
As well, you had Elvis Presley doing his hip-swinging thing; Freddie Mercury showing up to wow the crowd; cameos from Indiana Jones and Superman; even Kermit the Frog got in on all the fun.
Long story short – if you’re a fan of the movies, this was most definitely the live show for you.
Without hesitation, the Outlook audience stood and gave the cast a rousing and well-deserved ovation at the show’s conclusion. The cast of the show was comprised of Bryce Johnson, Onello Bahingawan, Jenna Hsu, Emmanuel Osaseri, Miranda Sheepwash, Joshua Luansing, Shania Cabilao, Heaven Smith, Elisabeth Hilderman, Jenna Brown, and Outlook’s very own Madeline Codling. Danny Balkwill serves as Artistic Director and CEO.
The SaskExpress performance in Outlook was held courtesy of a combined effort between the Outlook & District Arts Council, the Town of Outlook, and Equinox Theatre.
