SASKATOON — Concerned about the safety of all participants due to weather conditions, the City of Saskatoon decided to cancel the Rock Your Roots Walk that was scheduled for Tuesday morning.
The event, organized by Reconciliation Saskatoon, was part of the National Indigenous Day celebration at Victoria Park on Spadina Crescent.
On Monday, an afternoon thunderstorm caused flooding in several streets in the city, especially on the eastern side where water also seeped through the basement of some houses.
There was again the risk of flooding and lightning as the weather advisory stated there are potential rain showers Tuesday afternoon.
The Rock Your Roots Walk organizing committee, if it is safe, is encouraging everyone to do their reconciliation walk and post photos to social media with the hashtag #RockYourRoots.
Reconciliation Saskatoon is co-chaired by the city and the Office of the Treaty Commissioner and it aims to initiate a citywide conversation about reconciliation.
