REGINA — Opposition leader Ryan Meili has announced on social media that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

He announced the news on Twitter Wednesday, noting all four members of his household had come down with COVID-19.

Meili had previously posted that his young son Gus was in the pediatric ER due to viral myositis, which is muscle inflammation secondary to COVID-19, but later reported he was much better.

“I was last to test positive and, so far, have the fewest symptoms, but we're all pretty wiped and grateful we'd planned to be home this week,” Meili posted Wednesday.

“Thanks again to all who reached out with kind words and offers of help. This is an amazing community.”

Meili is not the only Saskatchewan politician to have tested positive COVID-19. In January, Premier Scott Moe announced he had tested positive, though he reported few if any symptoms.

Speaker of the Legislature Randy Weekes announced April 6 that he had tested positive for COVID-19 after attending the President's Dinner at the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Convention in Regina. On April 11, Weekes reported he was "feeling great" and was looking forward to going back to work.

The Saskatchewan Legislature is on its Easter break this week. They plan to resume its spring session next week.
