SASKATOON — The City of Saskatoon is issuing a timely reminder to motorists regarding the ongoing implementation of reduced speed limits in school and playground zones throughout the year.
As the school year draws to a close and the summer season unfolds, playground zones are expected to witness increased activity. In light of this, drivers must adhere to the designated speed limit of 30 kilometres per hour between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily.
The rationale behind these reduced speeds in areas where children congregate is to afford drivers additional reaction time, a wider field of vision, and the ability to promptly come to a complete stop.
The year-round implementation of the speed limit in school and playground zones began in September 2022 for the new school year.
To ensure compliance, here are some key points to keep in mind:
• Speed limits within school and playground zones are uniformly set at 30 km/h, applicable year-round, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• In instances where school and playground zone signs do not explicitly display a posted speed limit, it is imperative to treat them as cautionary and exercise utmost attentiveness when passing through these areas.
• The enforcement of speed limits will align with the operational hours of school playground zones.
The City of Saskatoon extends its appreciation to responsible drivers who conscientiously observe the reduced speed limits all year round.
